The National Sea Grant program’s mission is to use research, extension, and education to promote a sustainable economy and environment by enhancing the practical use of resources and conservation in coastal areas, marine environments, and the Great Lakes region. It partners with 34 universities in many states and U.S. territories, supporting research, extension specialists on the ground in communities, and education tools. Their areas of focus are healthy coastal ecosystems, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, resilient communities and economies, and environmental literacy and workforce development.
