Delaware River Climate Corps: Primed and Ready As proposed by President Biden’s Administration, a Civilian Climate Corps provides a compelling solution to compounding crises that Americans face today: recovery from a global pandemic, the legacy of racial injustice, and a rapidly worsening climate crisis. The Delaware River watershed region is poised to model solutions that create family-sustaining careers for underemployed but highly motivated members of society while addressing pressing climate and conservation needs. This region already leads with standout workforce programs in the environmental field, and these programs could readily expand if given the resources to do so. To support this vision for expansion across the Delaware River watershed and nationwide, we have mapped out a Delaware River Climate Corps program design whose success rests on five pillars: Just and responsive recruitment; Building from programs that work; Watershed-based service; Institutional partnerships; and Preparation for sustainable careers.
